What kind of businesses do you accept?
We accept retail, professionals, trade shows, mail order, telephone order, Internet based, and home based businesses. Sorry, we don't accept adult related businesses.
What if I have less than perfect credit?
We have one of the highest approval rates in the industry. So even if you have credit problems, in all likelihood we will still approve you.
What credit cards will I be able to accept?
You will be able to accept MasterCard, Visa and bank ATM debit cards. You can apply for American Express and Discover at the same time. If you would like to accept American Express or Discover Card there is $50 set up charge. As an accommodation we can set you up with any of the other credit cards of your liking.
Do I need a business license?
No, you do not need to have a business license, trade name registration, dba certificate, etc. but it is helpful.
What is the discount rate?
Every bank charges a discount rate. The discount rate is the percentage of each transaction that the processing company charges to handle the transaction for you, our discount rates are exceptionally low for both retail (swiped) merchants and for mail order/telephone order and Internet merchants.
What is the Address Verification System?
If you sell mail order/telephone order, or through the Internet, you don't want to send a product to a false address and have a risk of receiving a chargeback. The Address Verification System (AVS) lets you enter the customer's home address and compares it to the address on file with their credit card company. If someone uses a stolen card, and wants products shipped to a false address, AVS will detect this for you.
Will I receive a statement?
Yes. A statement is mailed out every month with the information on all deposits into your account, your total sales volume, and the charges for the month. There is a Monthly Statement Fee of $10.00
How will I get my money?
Your money will be deposited directly into your current business checking account. Funds are usually available within 2 business days (sometimes slightly longer if your business is considered high risk).
How do I apply?
Just fill out the free, no obligation, online merchant account application; you will then be able to print out the application that will have all your information filled into the correct spots. Then please sign all pages where indicated and mail back to us original signed documents, including a voided check for routing your money. If you would like to expedite the process you can fax us a copy of the documents signed and voided, but we will still need the hard copy in hand to complete application process. We will contact you within 24 hours (not including weekends and holidays) once we receive all documents either faxed or mailed.
How long does the approval process take?
Once all necessary paperwork is received, most accounts are approved in an average of 72 hours (not weekends and holidays). On occasion it can be done in the same day or if there are complications it can take a number of days longer until problems are resolved. Once approved, we will immediately inform you of your acceptance and deliver the terminal equipment or software of your choosing. **Please be aware that missing/inaccurate/incomplete or false information is the leading cause of applications being delayed from being approved.

Is there an application fee?
No, we waive all application fee’s.
Do I need a business checking account?
If your business operates as a corporation, yes, a business account is required. If your business is a sole proprietorship or partnership, the only requirement is that the individual or partners' name(s) must be on the check.
If I purchase equipment, how is the terminal shipped?
Once we receive your approved order, we will ship out same day UPS ground unless you request your equipment to be expedited. (a charge will be administered for any special shipping requests)
What if my terminal breaks down?
Customers maintaining a merchant account with Universal are recommended to enroll in our club membership, which will have the following warranty:
Universal will replace malfunctioning equipment free of charge if you utilize our replacement program (club membership). If it is determined that the terminal needs repairs, a replacement terminal will be sent within 24-hours. The replacement terminal will be the same model as the terminal being replaced. The terminal will be shipped to you programmed with your merchant account and ready for use. The replacement terminal will have passed thorough diagnostic tests assuring reliability and will be fully warranted as long as you are an active club member. **The only thing that can void a warranty if the machine is not surge protected for electric and phone lines or used for any other purpose then taking credit cards. Example, terminals are not to be used as hammers or designed to function underwater. There will be NO CHARGE for shipping and handling. The terminal requiring repairs will not be returned. Club Membership fee’s are $15 dollars a month, which includes full warrantee, all paper and ribbon supply requests. If you do not choose to be apart of our Club Membership, we will still repair your machine and charge you for the appropriate repair and shipping expense.
Do I need a dedicated phone line?
No. Terminals have dual phone jacks. This gives you the ability to connect the terminal and other peripheral equipment (modem, phone, fax) to one line. It is suggested to have a dedicated phone line that perhaps you only share with a fax line. Reason being that if someone picks up the phone line while you are transacting you will terminate the transaction.
Who installs the terminal?
The terminal is easy to install. All you have to do is plug in an electric cord into an outlet and telephone line into the back of the machine and wall. If you need assistance call us.

We will give you training and provide any assistance you need to learn how to perform transaction functions properly.
